7/19/24- Look at the season review post for a recap on the conference meet, state, and season overview.
4/30/24- The conference meet is in two days! I plan on getting the heat sheets and giving a quick simple preview before the meet and then a recap on the meet. I will be in attendance to watch. I was getting a little behind in the conference leaderboard, but it is caught up completely. Quick recap of some impressive results I saw over the last week: Drew Moser sub 10 3200, Josiah Hortin conference leading 51.4 400, and Karson Bruns 6 foot high jump. Good luck to all athletes at the Conference meet!
4/14/24- I did not have my work cut out for me this week as we saw a lot of results this week. This led to a lot of good performances and some standings mixed up. Tuscola stays in first but does get bumped down to 209 points, Clinton passes Shelbyville for second 127-122, Central A&M holds down 4th strongly, and Meridian passes Warrensburg 22-19. Performance of the week goes to Tuscola's DMR as they broke the Monticello meet record in 10:47, which is 4:20 pace for reference, unfortunately, I do not have splits. As for field events Clinton sophomore Luther Fitch jumps 6'4" at Maroa-Forsyth.
4/6/24- The team and individual placements have mostly stayed the same this week but that does not mean we haven't seen time drops in the conference. The 2 best of these were Josiah Hortin and Will Foltz of Tuscola who traveled all the way out to California for the Arcadia Invitational and went 9:05 and 9:09 in the 3200, Will got first in open 1 and Josiah 2nd in open 2, both races were amazing. Some more impressive performances were Bryce Graves going 52.13 in the 400, Aiden Weaver 48 feet shot put, Sawyer Woodard 151 feet disc throw, Drew Moser 10:11 in the 3200, Anthony Westbrooks 23.4 200, and some good 800s by Jackson Barrett(2:02), Blake McLeese(2:06), and Nolan Rhodes(2:11). Tuscola uses these improvements to get their score all the way up to 230! while Clinton and Shelbyville are in a dog fight for 2nd, Central A&M has a good gap for 4th, and Warrensburg and Meridian are fighting for not-last. 3/30/24- Outdoor season has started and with that we get some of our events back, causing more accurate rankings. All teams except Clinton have had at least one outdoor meet already. Tuscola's score has gone up to an eye-popping 213, while Shelbyville and Clinton have flipped(could be influenced by Clinton missing out on a few events), finally CAM has gotten into a meet and they slide into fourth but it is very close still with Warrensburg and Meridian right behind. I'd say the field result of the week goes to Sawyer Woodard of Tuscola in discus- throwing 134 feet, and on the track his teammate Bryce Graves earns track performance of the week with a blistering 53-second 400. This week did not have the best weather so I can't wait to see what our athletes can do when this weather improves and they get more opportunities.
3/24/24- Top Times saw some CIC dominance this year(mostly just Tuscola). It wasn't a great meet for all though, senior Lleyton Miller of Meridian disappointed in the 60 running 7.26 for 13th in prelims, while this was disappointing, the outdoor 100 matters more, giving him chances to redeem himself. Shelbyville had 2 athletes compete senior Isaac Chambers in the triple jump and sophomore Hadley Smith in the 60 hurdles, finishing 12th and 11th, neither did great but the experience is a good one to have. Tuscola had 10 athletes compete in 6 different events. Distance wise we saw dominance sophomore Blake McLeese goes 9:49 for 6th in the 3200, senior Jackson Barrett finishes 2nd and 3rd with a 9:25 and 4:27 in the 3200 and 1600, senior Will Foltz does the same double(but a little better) going for a win and a silver with a 9:20 and 4:23, saving the best for last senior Josiah Hortin gets 2 wins in the 800 and 1600(both by sit and kicking) his times were 1:57 and 4:22.Junior David Hornaday goes 9 flat missing finals by 0.002 finishing 9th and fellow junior Carter Simpson goes 9.23 for 14th both in the 60 hurdles. Relay wise their 4x2 of Kamden Flenner(23.81), Bryce Graves(23.85), Dylan Graves(24.33), and Tavi Neamtu(24.29) finishes 6th in 1:36.31, their 4x4 of Bryce Graves(54.8), David Hornaday(55.44), Dylan Graves(54.3), and Josiah Hortin(53.78) won heat 1 and overall finished 4th. This was a great day for Tuscola bringing home a lot of hardware, if they can do this at outdoor state they may be able to get another state championship.
3/17/24- The week before Top Times(indoor state) usually consists of athletes getting their last attempt to qualify or last race of indoor in, the only teams to compete this week- Tuscola, Clinton, and Meridian- were all at the Gene Armor Invite. As for the team scores, Tuscola holds first with Clinton 21 points back, and Shelbyville 20 points back from them; Meridian has passed Warrensburg for 4th but no one has to worry about either team going higher. We still unfortunately have not got to see CAM race. On the performance side this week Lleyton Miller(who just committed to Illinois College for football) still is running quick in the 60 with a 7.08, Josiah Hortin led the whole race for an impressive 1:57.76, Jackson Barrett chose to do the opposite and sit for a 4:31 mile, Brock Newberry continues his streak of PRs throwing an impressive 45 feet, Anthony Westbrooks runs a sub 24 200, and lastly newcomer basketball star Kam Sweetnam runs a 7.42 and jumps over 19 feet. With Top Times and outdoor coming I'm very excited to see everyone's times drop.
3/10/24- This week was highlighted by the return of our basketball athletes. This includes athletes such as Josiah Hortin, Tuscola, 4:19 mile; Jackson Barrett, Tuscola, 9:29 3200; Anthony Westbrooks, Clinton, 20' LJ, 7.22 60m; Luther Fitch, 20' LJ. The team scores this week really highlight our 3 team race between Tuscola, Shelbyville, and Clinton; last week Tuscola had a solid lead with Shelbyville and Clinton tied, but this week we see Shelbyville close that gap to just 8 points, while Clinton also closes the gap. At this point, I don't know if Tuscola can hold off Shelbyville but we'll see as we get closer to outdoor. Our performance of the week will go to Josiah Hortin in the mile, he ran a beautiful sit-and-kick race on St. Joseph's Carson Maroon, something we have seen him do before(sorry Caleb Kernaghan). 3 of his distance teammates also ran great races in the 3200, led by Jackson Barret running a 9:29 solo. Anthony Westbrooks had some solid performances for his first meet, most notably leading a great 1:38 4x2, and I expect him to build on this.
3/3/24- This week we saw some more nice performances, most notably the emergence of Tuscola, led by Will Foltz. Tuscola has not only taken projected 1st place, they have established a decent gap between them and 2nd. 2nd is a tie between Shelbyville and Clinton, as of right now I'm leaning towards Clinton, which is surprising to say the least. Best performance of the week goes to Tuscola's Will Foltz, who ran 4:21 in the 1600 at ISU. Drew Moser of Clinton was also in that race with an impressive 4:39. We saw a lot of other good marks this week done by David Hornaday, Aiden Weaver, Brock Newberry, Taylor Anderson, Jeuliyan Koehler, Alec Murray, and Bryce Graves to name a few. This upcoming week we'll see many of our conference teams at Mt. Zion on Wednesday, and in Champaign on Saturday.
2/24/24- After our first week, having 5/6 of our teams compete, we can kind of see how the teams are shaping up. Shelbyville has an early lead, but Tuscola looks even better, Clinton looks solid with limited entries, Meridian looks a lot better than expected, and Warrensburg doesn't have much but at least has Jeuliyan Koehler in long jump. The early scores don’t really matter but it is good to see. Our most impressive team of the week, I thought, was Meridian. Meridian stud Lleyton Miller, who moved from LSA, significantly leads the conference in the 60 and they had some decent freshmen. Tuscola seniors Bryce Graves and Will Foltz looked great in the 200/400 and 800/1600. Shelbyville’s Hadley Smith looks great in hurdles as well. There's still plenty of time to improve and we’ll get more info as athletes come in from basketball and wrestling and we get to see some more racing.
